  1. Check Eligibility

Before you risk anything, find out whether your LLC can move safely. I'll tell you if both states allow statutory domestication, and what to do if they don't.

  2. Follow a Clear Plan

I give you a state-specific roadmap that shows exactly what to do and when. Both states' laws included, so nothing is filed out of order or left undone.

  3. Avoid Penalties and Hassles

One wrong move can dissolve your LLC or create a tax nightmare. I protect you from hidden traps that can destroy continuity, trigger audits, or kill deals.

  4. Preserve Continuity

Your EIN, contracts, bank accounts, and licenses stay intact. I make sure your move doesn't erase your business history or reset your legal identity.

  5. Identify Filing Requirements

Moving an LLC isn't just paperwork. It's legal surgery. I map out every compliance step so you don't miss a single requirement or trigger costly rejections.

  6. Take the Other Path If You Need It

When one state doesn't allow domestication, the LLC can still move through a reorganization that reaches the same result. The analysis tells you which path applies.

Common LLC Relocation Pitfalls

Moving an LLC is a legal process, with specific documents filed in a specific order under two states' laws. Get it wrong and the traps are predictable. These are the ones I see most.

Dissolving the LLC Unnecessarily

Online formation companies often recommend dissolving the LLC and starting over, because they can't do a true domestication. That costs more, and it ends the company you built.

Getting the Filing Sequence Wrong

File in the wrong order and the LLC can cease to exist before the new state recognizes it. That gap is expensive to fix, if it can be fixed at all.

Improper Representations to State Agencies

Both states require a formal plan approving the move, and there is no universal form. Filing without proper authorization, or certifying an approval that doesn't exist, creates serious legal exposure.

Questions Owners Ask

What is an LLC domestication or conversion?

Domestication and conversion are two names for the same thing. Each state's LLC law sets its own name and its own rules for it. Whatever it is called, it moves an existing LLC to a new home state as the same company, and both states have to allow it.

What does it mean to move an LLC to another state?

A real move changes the LLC's legal home from the old state to the new one while the LLC continues as the same company. It keeps its EIN, its contracts, its bank accounts, its licenses, and its business relationships. Nothing has to be re-signed or re-applied for because the company never stopped existing.

How do I move my LLC to a new state?

Without starting over, there are two ways. If both states allow statutory domestication, that is usually the fastest and cleanest option, because the LLC continues as the same legal entity. When one or both states do not allow it, the LLC can still be moved through a structured reorganization that reaches the same result. The analysis tells you which path your two states allow.

Why should I move my LLC at all?

Most owners move the LLC because they have relocated and now run the business from a different state. The law then usually requires the LLC to register and comply in the new state while still maintaining it in the old one. That means duplicate filings, extra fees, and more compliance risk every year. Moving the LLC ends the two-state problem.

Do I need to dissolve my LLC and start a new one?

No. Dissolving and starting over is almost never necessary, and it can cost you your EIN, contracts, banking relationships, licenses, and operating history. A properly executed move keeps the business intact. Many online formation companies suggest starting over because they cannot handle domestication or reorganization; there is a better way, and it preserves what you have already built.

How much does LLC domestication or conversion cost?

One flat fee for the whole move, quoted after your analysis and agreed before work starts. Nothing along the way starts a meter. Accepted in both states or your money back.

Don't Risk Losing Your LLC

You do not need to shut down your LLC and start a new one. There is a better way, and it preserves what you have already built.
